Killer Kopywriting – New Vocabulary

I recently blogged about jargon and other overused words to avoid. Today’s post is a tongue-in-cheek look at how new words are created…

CARPERPETUATION (kar’ pur pet u a shun) n. The act, when vacuuming, of running over a string or a piece of lint at least a dozen times, reaching over and picking it up, examining it, then putting it back down to give the vacuum one more chance.

ECNALUBMA (ek na lub’ ma) n. A rescue vehicle which can only be seen in the rearview mirror.

EIFFELITES (eye’ ful eyetz) n. Gangly people sitting in front of you at the movies who, no matter what direction you lean, follow suit.

ELBONICS (el bon’ iks) n. The actions of two people maneuvering for one armrest at a movie theater.

ELECELLERATION (el a cel er ay’ shun) n. The mistaken notion that the more you press an elevator button the faster it will arrive.

FRUST (frust) n. The small line of debris that refuses to be swept onto the dust pan and keeps backing a person across the room until he finally decides to give up and sweep it under the rug.

LACTOMANGULATION (lak’ to man gyu lay’ shun) n. Manhandling the “open here” spout on a milk container so badly that one has to resort to the “illegal side “.

PEPPIER (pehp ee ay’) n. The waiter at a fancy restaurant whose sole purpose seems to be walking around asking diners if they want ground pepper.

PHONESIA (fo nee’ zhuh) n. The affliction of dialing a phone number and forgetting whom you were calling just as they answer.

PUPKUS (pup’ kus) n. The moist residue left on a window after a dog presses its nose to it.

Australian Business Ownership On The Rise

According to a recent Bankwest Business Trends Report, there were 42,000 more start-ups, a 3.3% increase in the number of people running their own business in 2010 than there were in 2009.

The report states this is the strongest level of start-up growth seen in almost a decade, with 1.3 million Australians now running their own business, accounting for 11.5% of employed Australians.

The report also reveals that there are more men than women running their own business. However, the strongest growth has come from female entrepreneurs. The Bankwest Report explains “We have found that over the past year, the growth rates for women running a business are almost double compared to men and over a five year period, the growth rates for women are more than triple that of men.” Women entrepreneurs are increasingly choosing to work for themselves for the added flexibility, in addition to the ease with which one can now work from home.

So, you’d think you’re in good company…

In a previous blog post, I explained how to use a promotional product to add value to your clients, prospects and suspects. I know this is an example of antimimeticisomorphism that takes a while to get a grasp of, which is why I wanted to show you an alternative, called Permacharts, shown below.

The charts themselves are self-explanatory, but which ones can help your clients?

Business School Leaves Entrepreneurs Empty-handed

Entrepreneurship is a 24-7 job. It requires the willingness to look at different perspectives and the ability to generate new ideas. Modern entrepreneurs need to be flexible enough to keep up with technology and to recognize and adapt to changes in the market. They need intuition and resilience in the face of obstacles. Unfortunately, most of these skills are not taught in business school. In fact, many business classes hinder the development of entrepreneurial skills.

Bowling Green University recently tested the entrepreneurial skills of two different groups of business students. One group consisted of students who had experience running their own business, and the other was a control group that had only regular classroom instruction. The study tested the students in three areas vital to entrepreneurship; overall business capability, the ability to embrace uncertainty, and the skills to start up a company. The results of the study showed that entrepreneurs test higher in every category.

The entrepreneurs’ overall business capability was 7% higher than the students, they rated 4% higher in risk taking, and 2% higher in start up skills.

Make stuff fun and get exponential results!

Many people ask me what Exponential Marketing is all about and in one word, it’s called Antimimeticisomorphism, having fun, doing out-of-the-ordinary things that create extra-ordinary results with the least amount of effort and lowest cost.

That being said, the best way is to SHOW you an classic example of what I mean. This short video says it all – creative, out-of-the-box thinking that Edward De Bono would call Parallel Thinking

If you like stuff like this, go to my Antimimeticisomorphism site where I’ve put together a collection of really cool stuff that is totally different and yes, exponential!

Squash Players Make Terrible Referees

I recently competed in the 2009 Australian Masters Squash and World Masters Games Competitions reaching the top 12 and 18 National and International Rankings respectively. I tell you this so you know I am qualified to make the statement that squash players make terrible referees. But here’s the thing that boggles my mind. They don’t know they suck.

At the 2009 World Masters Games, I had a match that was horribly refereed – I mean it was absolutely horrendous – it wasn’t biased – the calls were bad for me AND my opponent. But the calls were just plain wrong. The referee and the marker BOTH had NO CLUE how to referee a match EVEN THOUGH they were 50 to 60 year olds with 30+ squash playing experience.

How can that be?

Then it hit me, like a beginner’s exaggerated follow-through on the back-hand swing across the head…

Price Tag:The 1 Percent Improvement Doctrine Applied

This one speaks for itself – it’s the price tag on a digital movie camera I purchased from Georges Photo on George Street in Sydney. I had a question about a function on my camera and couldn’t find their website (-1%) or phone number in the online WHITE PAGES (-1%), but for some reason I went back to the camera box and found this (+1%). It speaks for itself – TOTALLY BRILLIANT!

By the way – they are super knowledgeable about cameras – they really know their stuff!

Tony Robbins Raises $518,000 For Charity

If you haven’t been to Anthony RobbinsDate With Destiny – you’ve missed out on a magical opportunity to well, create your ultimate destiny. The program’s phenomenal format and content cannot be summarised in a blog post, but what I do what to share with you is one of those ‘magical moments’ when Tony revealed that $518,000 was raised in ONE WEEK.

ONE WEEK, in the middle of a recession… An all-time Australian record. The winning ‘team’ from Japan raised $165,000!

Once again – in ONE WEEK, in the middle of a recession.

How does that happen?

It happens BECAUSE people want to be more than they are-> they want to contribute to others.

Simple.

What does that have to do with Business Mastery?

Good question.

Give more, be more and encourage your clients more and see what happens.

Let me be clear – Tony did not mention donations even one single time from stage – NOT ONCE. He totally gave of himself 1,000% and THAT made people WANT to give, contribute and donate to the foundation.

Reciprocity 101.

Give and you shall receive.

Give to your clients more than ever and see what happens to your sales, profits, referrals…

Go on and give it a go.
