Blogging For Business – Does it really work?

Don’t take my word for it. Read the email correspondence below from Malcolm Whitfield in response to a Post Program Planning (automated) email we send to all our clients after-the-fact.

___________________________________________

Hi Marc, (or whoever handles your mail),

Just thought I would reply to this.

I attended a half day Internet Business Blogging Workshop several years ago (2012).

I knew it was just a taster for further services, but I felt I got genuine value out of the few hours.

I implemented a couple of the ideas I got from the session, (there were more that I could have used, but I’m slack), plus what I have gleaned from the info on your website.

I got a feel for how the web thingy actually works. My tiny little website with its tiny little business pulls enough customers to outperform all my competition, including St. John’s, in my local area, and brings about as much work as I can handle by myself. (I’m 65 and not really wanting to hire staff and build a big business).

Your training session was tight and professional and jam-packed with real, usable tips and information. (I’m a trainer myself, and I’ve seen a lot of mediocre ones).

Don’t know how the people who do your mentoring programs (Platinum Program) and bootcamps go but if they get the same bang for the buck that I did, they should all be millionaires by now.

Just thought I’d let you know.
Cheers
Mal

This email, unsolicited and received more than two years after-the-fact tells you a few things… Among them:

  • Classy people still exist in this day and age of entitlement. If ever you are working late dealing with a client request and wonder if it’s worthwhile – remember you change the world ONE person at a time. Not many will tell you, but many more than you think will appreciate it.
  • When you pay it forward, it all comes back to you. Malcolm and I met at an event several years ago, but I still remember him even though I’ve spoken to thousands of people since then. Be INTERESTING and people will be INTERESTED in you and your story.
  • Give without the expectation of reciprocation. This is so much truer today than ever with “everything” being free and too many people taking things (and people) for granted. If you are well served and are provided with great value – let the person/company know. Praise and acknowledgment never, ever falls on deaf ears!

Online Lead generation

Last week, I blogged twice about how small business owners are generating new leads for free.

The first blog post explained step-by-step how to leverage things you find online to create SEO optimised content. The second blog post demonstrated how, once you adopt an exponential mindset, you can get more new leads for free.

But here’s the thing about blogs, the Internet and free stuff – MOST people read it, get a quick boost of enthusiasm and then go right back to their old (bad) habits.

Not The Graffiti Eaters!

They understand the power of online marketing and organic traffic generation strategies.

Have a look at their recent blog post on why you can’t chew gum in Singapore. It’s a brilliant example of SEO optimised blogging we teach in our 3-hour blogging webinar for small businesses.

The only real difference between people who are successful online and those who aren’t is that successful people do things that work – AND – do them systematically.

Everyone else just sits around “expecting something to happen” magically.

Singapore - no flushingIf you’re a plumber, you jump on this bandwagon and blog about this…!

Can you see how easy it can be to join the thread of an idea and make your blog posts just a little more interesting?

It starts with a thought, followed by a tried and tested system…

But nothing happens unless you do something…

Get New Leads For Free!

Yesterday, I blogged about how online lead generation was quick and easy, with a LIVE example. Today is a follow up with two parts.

The first part is how Lynn Gilmartin had a fabulous experience floating and video blogged about it. Inner Outer Health is a client of ours and its owner, Lena Yammine was gobsmacked when she saw the video as was I. You have to take a look at the video, it’s so natural, authentic and genuine – Lena could not have paid for a better testimonial!

Lynn Gilmartin - Floatation TankClick on the image or on the hyperlink to see Lynn Gilmartin’s video on her Floatation Tank Experience.

The lesson here is that we tech our clients Exponential Marketing Strategies that are based on high-integrity, long-term value creation principles that once adopted, become exponential due to the sheer force of the Law Of Attraction. Paying it forward reaps dividends for months, years and decades to come.

One of the problems with modern life and technology is that “some” people forget we are still HUMAN and still act and react as humans do…

A testimonial like the one Lynn created for Lena is literally PRICELESS.

I am sure, after visiting Lynn’s website she totally gets it. I mean c’mon – read about her amazing journey… WOW!

Isn’t it amazing how “some” people get this stuff and others struggle?

The reason for my blog post today is to SHOW you how you can get new leads by adding value and leveraging the Internet as a HUMAN CHANNEL, to communicate with your audience. As you do that, you WILL reap the benefits, one click, one client at a time.

If you want to learn how you can start to attract more ideal clients like Lynn to YOUR business – have a look at a bundle we put together for you to help you generate more online leads effortlessly.

Once you do that, you’ll fully grasp the value of the FREE BONUS that resides on the next page…

Lead generation the easy way

Today’s blog post is special. I know you hear that a lot, but bear with me and determine for yourself if what I  reveal below is valuable, maybe even priceless for you.

In today’s world, we know you have to be online to get new leads and you have to have a preeminent presence NOT to lose the sales that are on their way to you. I know it sounds harsh, but if your website sucks, prospects are going to avoid you, simple as that. Prospects who were considering purchasing from you will now buy from your competitor.

That’s pretty obvious, but so is lead generation – but then again is it really?

The fundamental building block of online lead generation is Search Engine Optimisation (SEO). The problem is how to do it EFFECTIVELY and EFFICIENTLY.

Effectiveness comes from doing the right things and efficiency from spending the least amount of time, effort and/or cost doing it.

So what’s so special about today’s post then?

Glad you’re still reading and interested.

First of all, I want you to click on this link —> it’s a Funny Puppy Video. Go have a look and then come back here…

Top Common Blogging Writing Mistakes

Blogging is increasingly important, especially for small businesses who want to generate new leads. We cover why and how to do it at our Blogging for Business workshop that we also have recorded as a “How to blog webinar“. One of the things we cover is the top mistakes to avoid, including this colourful infographic that summarises the most common writing mistakes.

Have Fun Growing Your Business Exponentially

This is a fun strategy… to grow your business exponentially.

Step #1: Get a video created that captures people’s attention and gets your primary message across. Sorry, my preferred site for these videos is a secret I keep for my clients. A video like this should cost less than $100 – MUCH LESS.

Step #2: Upload the video to YouTube and make sure to optimise the video to achieve the maximum SEO benefit and total views. Sorry, again those are special tips for clients only!

Step #3: Embed the video into your blog.

Step #4: Email your clients to watch the video on your blog – NOT YouTube directly.

By embedding the video into your blog, you will get people to remain on your blog (website) longer which will improve your SEO rankings.

It’s important that you syncronise your YouTube and blogging strategies for maximum results. I explain all of this and more in my Internet Lead Generation Toolkit.

Internet Traffic Tip

Getting to the top of Google’s search listings is not hard, if you know what to do.

Here is one quick and easy way to get there.

  1. Use the Google Keyword tool to find a relevant four-word phrase in your industry that has several thousand searches per month. The more specific the phrase, the better.
  2. Create a short video (Maximum 2-3 minutes) with a call to action to go to your website. As we have discussed, you are better to send people to a landing page and not your home page.
  3. Upload the video to your YouTube channel. We teach how to optimise your video editing the title, description, tags, etc. contact us if you want to learn how to do this.
  4. View your video in a couple of different browsers. View them from start to finish, this is important!
  5. Embed the video in your blog and view the video on that page.

This gets you to the top of Google, but the trick is to STAY THERE. That requires on-going tips, tools and techniques that are beyond what we can offer on a blog. Click on the hyperlinks if  you want to learn business blogging strategies, how to turn browsers into buyers or generate more leads via the Internet.

If you aren’t leveraging these strategies, you’re either spending way too much time, money and/or effort. What we teach are the fastest, easiest and least expensive strategies to get free organic traffic to your website and/or blog.

The challenge is not to cheat and use black hat strategies that will get you knocked off the search engine listings.

BEWARE of the SEO service providers who “guarantee” listing results. They might GET you there, but staying there and NOT being penalised by Google is another matter. Trying to “undo” their tactics could cost you hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars. In one extreme case, the website was banned from Google which essentially killed the business “overnight”. A frightful thought.

Organic search and click-throughs

According to recent studies, search engine users overwhelmingly click on organic results as opposed to paid ads by a whopping margin of 94 per cent to 6 per cent.

One study looked at both branded and non-branded search queries. On branded searches, the top search result received the most clicks, which makes sense, considering the search is likely to be navigational in nature:

  • Result 1: 80%
  • Result 2: 6%
  • Result 3: 4%
  • Remainder: 10%

On non-branded searches, however, the data indicates searchers are more willing to go well beyond the top 3 results (more than 50% of the time!):

  • Result 1: 35 %
  • Result 2: 15 %
  • Result 3: 11 %
  • Remainder: 39 %

With the natural tendency for users to trust organic listings over the paid counterparts,  one has to wonder why small businesses aren’t improving their SEO rankings to get listed higher and more frequently for the keywords their suspects and prospects are typing into Google.

The best part of all of this is that organic search results are essentially free – once you know what to do, it’s quite easy and a lot less effort than the alternative – Making enough money to pay for paid listings!

Hummingbird Google Update

This is a major update and will affect 90% of web searches. The key points are:

  • Regularly updated sites will do even better (eg with blogs)
  • Fundamental rethink in how Google ranks and judges content
  • Longer phrases and queries will improve rankings for sites with a good strategy for this
  • Reduced importance of backlinks and more of a focus on unique, fresh, relevant content

The final point is part of the work being done to reduce link farms effects on ranking.

Link building, it’s not what you think it is

I have a word that defines what today’s blog post is all about. Antimimeticisomorphism. Simply stated, it means doing out-of-the-ordinary things that create extra-ordinary results with the least amount of effort and lowest cost. It necessarily includes doing things that create indirect benefits.

Links, SEO, Link RegistryLet me give you an example. There is a website registry for Australian Blogs. For a nominal sum, you can get a link with a keyword optimised listing. If you don’t understand Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), you’re going to look at how many clicks it produces and if the number isn’t very high you might think the link isn’t worth the investment…

But here’s the think MOST people don’t understand about the value of links: It’s not the number of clicks that it generates that’s important – it’s what it contributes to your SEO indexing. For example, if you have an Australian Blog, then you want the search engines to INDEX it. Which they will… But it will remain at the BOTTOM of the index unless there is a link that raises its SEO status. What better link than anAustralian Blog  registry link?

Even if NO ONE clicks through the link – the BENEFIT can still be huge.

But if you look at the wrong Google Analytics statistics (Click Throughs instead of overall traffic increase), you will make a poor decision.

This is just one example of some of the common mistakes people make when they don’t understand the basics.

NEWS FLASH: Twitter cuts off service to LinkedIn

Twitter, Linked In, Social Media, Social Platforms, Tweets, TweetingTwitter, the micro-blogging site, has cut off tweets on the professional social network LinkedIn, ending a two-year partnership.

Twitter is a website that lets users broadcast 140-character status updates, or tweets, in real time. The micro-blogging service has had a partnership with LinkedIn since 2009.

“If you had previously synced your LinkedIn and Twitter accounts, and selected the option to share Tweets on LinkedIn, those Tweets generated from Twitter will no longer appear on LinkedIn. There will be no other changes to your LinkedIn experience,” Ryan Roslansky, LinkedIn head of content, said in a recent blog post.

Want to know what to do about it? We cover all of this and more in our Business Blogging For Sales Lead Generation Webinar and Internet Marketing Bootcamp.

Social Media Losing Shoppers

As you must know by now, I am not a fan of Social Media Marketing. I think it’s a monumental waste of time, money and effort. I haven’t held back on this view and it’s simply because it doesn’t make any financial sense for small business to waste countless hours and in some case thousands of dollars on strategies that don’t work.

The research is just starting to come in that fewer shoppers are flocking to social media websites in search of deals and coupons, according to a study released Thursday by the National Retail Federation in the United States.

The number of consumers who reported following retailers on the likes of Facebook, Twitter or Pinterest fell to 51 percent from 58 percent  last year, according to the 2012 Social and Mobile Commerce Study.

I am not saying social media is dead, all I’m saying is that more and more businesses are realising that the inevitable point of diminishing returns is here.

As a small business, you have limited resources and cash. You want to make the most of it. Social media marketing is not where you should be spending it – that’s all I’m saying.

Want to know where you should invest your hard earned money to get your biggest bang for your buck?

Come invest 3 days with me at the Exponential Internet Marketing Bootcamp and you’ll learn how small businesses – just like yours are dominating their market places, growing when others are contracting and laying off staff.
