Social Media Losing Shoppers

As you must know by now, I am not a fan of Social Media Marketing. I think it’s a monumental waste of time, money and effort. I haven’t held back on this view and it’s simply because it doesn’t make any financial sense for small business to waste countless hours and in some case thousands of dollars on strategies that don’t work.

The research is just starting to come in that fewer shoppers are flocking to social media websites in search of deals and coupons, according to a study released Thursday by the National Retail Federation in the United States.

The number of consumers who reported following retailers on the likes of Facebook, Twitter or Pinterest fell to 51 percent from 58 percent  last year, according to the 2012 Social and Mobile Commerce Study.

I am not saying social media is dead, all I’m saying is that more and more businesses are realising that the inevitable point of diminishing returns is here.

As a small business, you have limited resources and cash. You want to make the most of it. Social media marketing is not where you should be spending it – that’s all I’m saying.

Want to know where you should invest your hard earned money to get your biggest bang for your buck?

Come invest 3 days with me at the Exponential Internet Marketing Bootcamp and you’ll learn how small businesses – just like yours are dominating their market places, growing when others are contracting and laying off staff.

Feeling like a hostage to your web design / IT supplier?

Web Design Services, Get Rid Of Your Web DesignerMany small business people treat one of their most precious assets as an afterthought, rather than as one of their most precious assets. It’s not inconceivable for a website to be worth $100,000+ when there is a legitimate brick and mortar business “behind it”.

Put differently, years ago, when you bought a Yellow Pages ad, you’d SPEND thousands of dollars with NO appreciation in the capital asset value of the phone book. With the Internet, every dollar spent on your website should increase its capital value. Think about it this way – if you were assess two identical businesses, one with a website and the other without one, which one would YOU buy?  Enough said.

Most small businesses don’t proactively deal with their website and/or web online presence for a long list of reasons including:

  • “I don’t get all this Interweb stuff”
  • “I don’t like Facebook and don’t understand why people waste so much time ‘talking’ to complete strangers”
  • “My son-in-law, nephew or neighbour seems to understand it and is not charging me much to handle my website…”
  • “Technology is changing too quickly, I can’t keep up.”
  • “I don’t get any web inquiries so it’s not worth worrying about.”
  • “My staff’s taking care of it, in fact, we all kinda pitch in to get stuff done.”*

Whatever your excuses, as a small business person, in this day and age you simply cannot hand over your online presence to just anyone anymore than you would give them the pin code to your bank card. I am totally serious.

Blogging For Small Business Interview

I was interviewed by Ludwina Dautovic for Red Tent Radio yesterday and I have to admit it was one of the most fun interviews I’ve done in a long time. We got started and before we knew it, the 40 minutes were up! We talked about blogging for small business owners. The interview will be released as a podcast in a few weeks, but before it comes out, I thought I’d take this opportunity to remind you that we’re staging a 4-hour Masterclass called “How to convert your online browsers to buyers” in Sydney and Melbourne on April 11th and 18th respectively.

NEWS UPDATE:

CLICK THE HYPERLINK to download the Blogging For Small Business
Interview With Ludwina Dautovic on Red Tent Radio!

If you missed our exceptionally popular workshop “Business Blogging For Sales Lead Generation“, you’re in luck – it’s now available as a 4-hour webinar you can stream to your computer. A webinar is great because you can stop, pause and rewind to make sure you don’t miss any important details.

Ludwina and I discussed WHY small business people need to blog,
what NOT to do and HOW to get started quickly and easily

As you’d expect, I have a very different take on most marketing strategies – one of them is I am not a fan of Social Media… I don’t adhere to the common propaganda that’s proliferating “out there” that you need to be on Facebook and Twitter. If you want to hear an honest viewpoint that will benefit your bottom line and save you from wasting countless hours, make sure you keep an eye out for the interview – I will blog about it when it comes out and you’ll be able to download it for free.

But, by that time, you’ll realise you should have attended my 4-hour Masterclass called “How to convert your online browsers to buyers” in Sydney and Melbourne on April 11th and 18th respectively.

So you know what to do – take the time now to have a look at the event page and keep in mind it comes with a 100% no-questions-asked money back guarantee. If at the end of the 4 hours, you haven’t received at least 2 or 3 times the cost of admission, we’ll refund you and remove you from our mailing list. That’s how confident we are of the immense value we’ll be revealing.

Here’s one of the concepts Ludwina and I touched on during the interview – it’s called the Miser Mentality. With a Miser Mentality, the focus is on the cost of something rather than the value or potential. A prime example is someone who drives 15 to 20 minutes to save a few cents on petrol. They have no appreciation for their TIME VALUE. A Miser can only see the COST (petrol saving) – not the BENEFIT (paying a little more, but saving time).

The strategies I will reveal at the next DIY Internet Marketing Masterclass can increase your website traffic anywhere from 15% to as much as 200%, depending on what you’ve done and how well you’ve done it. But here’s the thing – anyone who has a product or service that is worth at least $300 would get a benefit of $3,000 to $5,000 from the strategies I will reveal as a MINIMUM STARTING POINT.

So if the question was:

Would you pay $300 to get $3,000 in sales
in the next 12 months?

The answer should be YES! but the problem is that with a Miser Mentality there is a filter, a bias, a distortion that comes into play – that PREVENTS the POSSIBILITY from being even considered.

It might be thought, in a fleeting moment, but not seriously assessed or considered at its full (potential) value. Therein lies one of the key differences between the abundantly wealthy people who seek and focus on potential opportunities whereas misers miss those opportunities NOT because they aren’t there, but because they can’t see them.

Miser, Lack, Scotoma, Fear Of Loss, In the psychological literature it’s called a Scotoma. The best example is looking for the salt when the salt shaker is right there in front of you…

I will address some of these inhibitors to success at the upcoming Exponential Extravaganza in May and June, but before that event takes place, the Internet DIY 4 hour Masterclass takes place.

Can you see the dilemma EVERYONE FACES – you know you want the benefits, results and rewards… But you have to consider and BELIEVE it’s possible. Quite the tug of war isn’t it?

I know. I struggled with it more than 30 years ago. I don’t remember what the trigger or catalyst was, but at some point I decided that the Miser Mentality can’t work – so I gave Boundless Opportunity Thinking a try. Once adopted, I transformed it into my own Exponential Mindset Thinking and the rest as they say is history…

So what “history” will you create for yourself in 2012, 2013, 2014 and beyond…?

Google Searches Are Getting Longer

Ray Keefe of Successful Endeavours came across new data that shows Google searches are getting longer and more specific. Attached are a few pointers on how you can adapt.

The data reveals that the percentage of clicks based on search term length is changing. Clicks made through searches over eight words grew by 8.3%, with searches over seven words growing by 5.3%.

In contrast, clicks made through searches using one word fell by 1.1%, with clicks made by searches over two words falling by 1.5%. Searches using three words remained flat.

The data isn’t surprising as the growth of the Internet as a business tool results in more users searching for more specific data, such as brands and product names.

Google reports that 20% of searches are absolutely brand new, meaning they have never been typed into the search engine before. Users are having to think about being more specific to get through jargon and get to what they really want.

This is important for you, as you must think about what keywords you can use in order to show up in as many searches as possible when your target market is looking to acquire your product or service.

One of the biggest trends ignored by small businesses is search-by-location. You must start to use keywords relating to your  location, as users are more and more searching for specific brands and products by suburb.

Not enough small businesses think about ranking for their suburb name, which is an extremely easy thing to rank for and people will use it in very specific searches. This is necessary even though Google is getting better with that sort of thing, with both maps as well as business listings.

At eight words, which is pretty high, think about the things people would be searching for and the combinations they would prefer…

That means you must consider what you think users will be searching for and that means not just what you think should be an appropriate keyword.

For example, Qantas probably use the keywords cheap flights, but they aren’t targeting cheap air fares. Similarly, you might want to use the words “cheap accommodation” but also consider most people won’t type that into Google, chances are they’ll type in “cheap hotels” or “cheap motel”.

As I’ve explained in previous blog posts, you must not get obsessed with adding as many keywords as possible, but instead should add the right types of keywords.

Google Adword strategies are beyond the scope of this blog post, I just wanted to highlight that BECAUSE searches are getting longer, you need to keep that in mind…

You can thank Ray Keefe of Successful Endeavours for the initial source of information – by going to his site and having a look around – that’ll help his SEO!

What’s In A Domain Name?

Testing multiple domain names and picking the one that performs best (for example, in Google AdWords ads) is a very profitable strategy. Continue reading ‘What’s In A Domain Name?’

Bingmail.com.au

Every once in a while a really cool idea crosses my desk that I just have to share with you. In this case it comes from none other than Australia Post. I have not yet used this service, but I thought you might need it before I do. I am streamlining ALL my operations and have this service slated for a Sept-Oct review.

Internet Technical Mastery Event Day 2 On Today In Melbourne

As you know from yesterday’s post, I am in Melbourne at Internet Technical Mastery - A Platinum Program event that is not open to the public… It’s where I reveal the most powerful Internet tips, tricks and techniques like the one I will partially share with you right now.

It’s called www.UserTesting.com you can scroll down to read my testimonial. It’s REAL people giving you REAL feedback on your site or blog.

But here’s the thing…

What feedback do you take and which one do you leave behind?

I’ve done about 10 of them so far – and about 25% of the suggestions would KILL my sales if I did what the reviewer was telling me to change. OWCH!

So how do you decipher what to take and what to leave?

That’s where I come in. At events like Internet Technical Mastery and our upcoming Exponential Internet and Business Building Bootcamp, I explain EXACTLY how to leverage a tool like this so it helps you get that breakthrough you need to be the ONE out of TWENTY who makes money on the Internet…

www.UserTesting.com is a fantastic service YOU MUST USE.

It’s just that if you want to be exponential, you need to know what to change and what NOT TO TOUCH!

Otherwise, every time you have someone new testing it, you’ll keep changing it back and forth, spinning your wheels and not getting anywhere.

www.UserTesting.com is a powerful tool – just like a chainsaw. You need to know HOW to use it to get the outcome you want.

I recommend it to all my clients as an absolute MUST, no two ways about it.

You simply cannot afford not to do it.

BUT, as I said you have to be careful not to UNDO what’s working and there are simple ways to make sure that doesn’t happen and how that can be safely and methodically tested. Come to our Bootcamp or join one of our Membership Programs and I’ll make sure you avoid the mistakes most people make and do what the top 5% Internet Marketers are doing to make more than the other 95% combined.

This blog gives great value for FREE – imagine what I can teach you when you pay for the privilege of being in the room?!?! That is what successful know – the investment pays for itself 10 times over.

To put things in perspective – I took 3 ideas from ONE User Testing Review that increased my conversions by 12% that equates to more than $10,000 of ADDITIONAL NEW SALES of ONE product.

With another site, I incorporated 7 subtle changes that have already increased back-end sales by 8.5% and reduced unsubscribes by 13.4% in the first week of testing.

The challenge you have (we all have) is once again what to change and not change and WHY!

Understanding the WHY means that you can do 10, 20 or even 30 User Testing Reviews and know what to ignore and what to focus on.

How would you like to know the drop-dead-easy strategy I use to get EXPONENTIAL RESULTS INSTANTLY that most people would not think of?

Ask me at the next event and I’ll tell you! This ONE tactic means I get 200, 300% or even 500% more out of EACH User Testing Review than what others are doing!

Yeah I know – that’s a tease – a tease to get you to come to my Bootcamp where for 36 hours you’ll be flooded with tips like this… Want to focus ONLY on the Internet, attend the one-day Internet Millionaire Marketing Event.

Skype Your Way To Exponential Sales

If you’re thinking about getting TRULY Exponential about your business model, you need to take a serious look at Skype. I struggled with it a few years ago when the sound quality was dodgy at best, but now with high-speed broadband and wireless, it’s a must-have tool for every serious business person online and offline.

I closed my physical office last December as part of the transformation of my business from an effort-based model to a value-based model. I have contractors working remotely from Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane as though we were all in one place.

Skype allows us to do this effortlessly and the best part: IT’S FREE.

Say it with me… Ka-Ching!

If you want to scale your business, you need to use the latest and greatest tools. Skype is one of them.

Upgrade your skills and step into the ‘new’ dimension of the Virtual Corporation that can be scaled and leveraged – exponentially.

Domain Name Buyers Beware!

I just got caught with a hidden upsell that I thought you’d want to know about – especially if you have a lot of domain names as most of us have…

It’s the FREE private domain registration ‘upsell’ for FREE…

So what’s the catch? When your domains are automatically renewed, they PRIVATE REGISTRATION COSTS are added to the domain registration DOUBLING the COSTS per domain.

Owch!

If you don’t need the anonymity because you are your website e.g. www.MarcDussault.com, then this can be a saving of THOUSANDS of dollars per year.

You’re welcome!

Onward and upward!

Marc

P.S.

This is one of the many strategies I cover in my recession-proofing video. For $17, ideas like this pays for itself ten times, no make that 100 times over!

It’s all about getting lean and mean!
