Shift Happens

We all know SHIFT HAPPENS. But wouldn’t it be nice to have 20/20 Foresight?

Consider these digital disruptions:*

  • The world’s largest taxi company owns no taxis (Uber)
  • The largest accommodation provider owns no real estate (AirBnB)
  • The biggest communication companies own no infrastructure (networks) (Skype, WeChat)
  • The most valuable retailer has no inventory or stores (Alibaba)
  • The most popular media owner creates no content (Facebook)
  • The fastest growing banks have no money (SocietyOne)
  • The world’s largest movie house owns no cinemas (Netflix)
  • The largest software vendors in the world don’t write their own apps (Apple and Google)

SHIFT HAPPENS … At an unprecedented rate. Click on the hyperlink to see how the world has changed just since 2006 when the video was created – SHOCKING!

Social Media Versus Traditional Media

Even though this is a study by Virgin Mobile, it still puts into question the true so-called value of Social Media… As you know from reading this blog, I am NOT a proponent of Social Media. I rely on RESULTS to direct my marketing and sales activities. If you do what everyone else does, you end up with the same results they get, which by definition is… AVERAGE.

Get New Leads For Free!

Yesterday, I blogged about how online lead generation was quick and easy, with a LIVE example. Today is a follow up with two parts.

The first part is how Lynn Gilmartin had a fabulous experience floating and video blogged about it. Inner Outer Health is a client of ours and its owner, Lena Yammine was gobsmacked when she saw the video as was I. You have to take a look at the video, it’s so natural, authentic and genuine – Lena could not have paid for a better testimonial!

Lynn Gilmartin - Floatation TankClick on the image or on the hyperlink to see Lynn Gilmartin’s video on her Floatation Tank Experience.

The lesson here is that we tech our clients Exponential Marketing Strategies that are based on high-integrity, long-term value creation principles that once adopted, become exponential due to the sheer force of the Law Of Attraction. Paying it forward reaps dividends for months, years and decades to come.

One of the problems with modern life and technology is that “some” people forget we are still HUMAN and still act and react as humans do…

A testimonial like the one Lynn created for Lena is literally PRICELESS.

I am sure, after visiting Lynn’s website she totally gets it. I mean c’mon – read about her amazing journey… WOW!

Isn’t it amazing how “some” people get this stuff and others struggle?

The reason for my blog post today is to SHOW you how you can get new leads by adding value and leveraging the Internet as a HUMAN CHANNEL, to communicate with your audience. As you do that, you WILL reap the benefits, one click, one client at a time.

If you want to learn how you can start to attract more ideal clients like Lynn to YOUR business – have a look at a bundle we put together for you to help you generate more online leads effortlessly.

Once you do that, you’ll fully grasp the value of the FREE BONUS that resides on the next page…

How To Learn Something New

What I love to do is uncover “lies” that distract or distort people’s reality or perceptions of reality…

For example, I think Malcolm Gladwell is one of the best business non-fiction writers around. His book Outliers was a phenomenon for non-academically inclined business people. He brought the world of ‘Expert Performance‘ to the layperson in easily digestible prose and great storytelling.

Internet Support

It was so easy to learn new stuff when we were young… Why is that?!?!?

Unfortunately, people associated learning something new with the 10,000 hour rule. What most people might not fully consider is that for someone to master or become an expert in anything takes… 10,000 hours.

But to learn something new, according to Josh Kaufman in this Ted Talk, takes only 20 hoursIF you use the same principles as the experts, champions and so-called child prodigies – Deliberate practice.

Easier said than done, but then again it actually is easy when you know WHAT to do and HOW to do it.

As The Exponential Growth Strategist, this is what I do for our clients. (1) I uncover the big “lies” that distract and distort reality. (2) I give them the foundational principles like deliberate practice so they can start the process and most importantly, (3) I follow up and follow through with the guidance and mentoring they need to achieve results in record time – with the least amount of effort and lowest cost possible.

The number 1 impediment is not your ability to do “it”, but the mindset that permeates your current reality – if you think it takes 10,000 to learn a new skill, you won’t start to learn anything new because who the hell has 10,000 free hours?!?!

BUT…

If it only takes 20 hours to learn any new skill, then it means you could learn something NEW every month in 2014… Hmmm… How much would THAT change your life, shift your destiny?

Say hello to your New Year’s Resolutions!

One of the key foundational principles I teach our Platinum Members is that the more you become proficient in one aspect of your life or career, the harder it becomes for you to replicate that in acquiring another new skill. KNOWING why is the missing link most “successful people” lack to create their next big accomplishment.

It is the number 1 source of frustration and disappointment in accomplished individuals, especially when it comes to Internet Marketing and online lead generation.

Contact us and we’ll help you overcome these psychological barriers and unleash the exponential potential that is within you. It’ll only take 20 hours, not 10,000.

Technology – A liberator or enslaver?

I recently came across this image that even though it speaks for itself, it begs asking yourself the question:

Does technology liberate you or enslave you?

Dog Leash

I remember back in 1988 when I wanted to have a so-called cellular phone, which at the time was more of a battery with a handset attached to it. It cost a fortune back then and all it did was make and receive phone calls!

Uniden PhoneMy partner at the time was not a fan of cellular phones, so when I sat down with him to “negotiate” buying one, his response surprised me. He explained he didn’t want one because he would never get any peace.

I was launching a new business and had to be at the office all the time to make sure everything was running as it should – UNLESS I had a phone so the team could just call me, I was a slave to the business.

This was further emphasised to me while having dinner with my parents who (still) don’t like mobile phones.

I met my parents for dinner at a local restaurant with cellular (battery) in hand and was met with the “if you bring that thing in here, you have to turn it off…” To which I responded, “the only reason I can be here is because I have this with me. IF I am needed, my team will call and I will take the call outside, otherwise I can”t have dinner with you because I need to remain ‘available’.”

We had a great dinner and we were not interrupted with a call.

Since then I have always remained AWARE that technology is designed to SERVE us – not ENSLAVE us.

I wish more people understood the difference.

My partner and parents sure did/do!

Book Box Company – great explanation video

The true power of the Internet is its ability to reduce the cost of communicating with your suspects and prospects.

The video below, by the Book Box Company is the perfect explanation of what they do, how they do it and why it’s important to the final (finished) product.

There is no doubt that once you’ve seen the short video (less than 4 minutes), you know everything you need to know.

There is also no doubt that sales will increase as a result of the video – because we can appreciate the time, care, effort and thought that has gone into the process – especially all the recycling!

Feeling like a hostage to your web design / IT supplier?

Web Design Services, Get Rid Of Your Web DesignerMany small business people treat one of their most precious assets as an afterthought, rather than as one of their most precious assets. It’s not inconceivable for a website to be worth $100,000+ when there is a legitimate brick and mortar business “behind it”.

Put differently, years ago, when you bought a Yellow Pages ad, you’d SPEND thousands of dollars with NO appreciation in the capital asset value of the phone book. With the Internet, every dollar spent on your website should increase its capital value. Think about it this way – if you were assess two identical businesses, one with a website and the other without one, which one would YOU buy?  Enough said.

Most small businesses don’t proactively deal with their website and/or web online presence for a long list of reasons including:

  • “I don’t get all this Interweb stuff”
  • “I don’t like Facebook and don’t understand why people waste so much time ‘talking’ to complete strangers”
  • “My son-in-law, nephew or neighbour seems to understand it and is not charging me much to handle my website…”
  • “Technology is changing too quickly, I can’t keep up.”
  • “I don’t get any web inquiries so it’s not worth worrying about.”
  • “My staff’s taking care of it, in fact, we all kinda pitch in to get stuff done.”*

Whatever your excuses, as a small business person, in this day and age you simply cannot hand over your online presence to just anyone anymore than you would give them the pin code to your bank card. I am totally serious.

Blogging For Small Business Interview

I was interviewed by Ludwina Dautovic for Red Tent Radio yesterday and I have to admit it was one of the most fun interviews I’ve done in a long time. We got started and before we knew it, the 40 minutes were up! We talked about blogging for small business owners. The interview will be released as a podcast in a few weeks, but before it comes out, I thought I’d take this opportunity to remind you that we’re staging a 4-hour Masterclass called “How to convert your online browsers to buyers” in Sydney and Melbourne on April 11th and 18th respectively.

NEWS UPDATE:

CLICK THE HYPERLINK to download the Blogging For Small Business
Interview With Ludwina Dautovic on Red Tent Radio!

If you missed our exceptionally popular workshop “Business Blogging For Sales Lead Generation“, you’re in luck – it’s now available as a 4-hour webinar you can stream to your computer. A webinar is great because you can stop, pause and rewind to make sure you don’t miss any important details.

Ludwina and I discussed WHY small business people need to blog,
what NOT to do and HOW to get started quickly and easily

As you’d expect, I have a very different take on most marketing strategies – one of them is I am not a fan of Social Media… I don’t adhere to the common propaganda that’s proliferating “out there” that you need to be on Facebook and Twitter. If you want to hear an honest viewpoint that will benefit your bottom line and save you from wasting countless hours, make sure you keep an eye out for the interview – I will blog about it when it comes out and you’ll be able to download it for free.

But, by that time, you’ll realise you should have attended my 4-hour Masterclass called “How to convert your online browsers to buyers” in Sydney and Melbourne on April 11th and 18th respectively.

So you know what to do – take the time now to have a look at the event page and keep in mind it comes with a 100% no-questions-asked money back guarantee. If at the end of the 4 hours, you haven’t received at least 2 or 3 times the cost of admission, we’ll refund you and remove you from our mailing list. That’s how confident we are of the immense value we’ll be revealing.

Here’s one of the concepts Ludwina and I touched on during the interview – it’s called the Miser Mentality. With a Miser Mentality, the focus is on the cost of something rather than the value or potential. A prime example is someone who drives 15 to 20 minutes to save a few cents on petrol. They have no appreciation for their TIME VALUE. A Miser can only see the COST (petrol saving) – not the BENEFIT (paying a little more, but saving time).

The strategies I will reveal at the next DIY Internet Marketing Masterclass can increase your website traffic anywhere from 15% to as much as 200%, depending on what you’ve done and how well you’ve done it. But here’s the thing – anyone who has a product or service that is worth at least $300 would get a benefit of $3,000 to $5,000 from the strategies I will reveal as a MINIMUM STARTING POINT.

So if the question was:

Would you pay $300 to get $3,000 in sales
in the next 12 months?

The answer should be YES! but the problem is that with a Miser Mentality there is a filter, a bias, a distortion that comes into play – that PREVENTS the POSSIBILITY from being even considered.

It might be thought, in a fleeting moment, but not seriously assessed or considered at its full (potential) value. Therein lies one of the key differences between the abundantly wealthy people who seek and focus on potential opportunities whereas misers miss those opportunities NOT because they aren’t there, but because they can’t see them.

Miser, Lack, Scotoma, Fear Of Loss, In the psychological literature it’s called a Scotoma. The best example is looking for the salt when the salt shaker is right there in front of you…

I will address some of these inhibitors to success at the upcoming Exponential Extravaganza in May and June, but before that event takes place, the Internet DIY 4 hour Masterclass takes place.

Can you see the dilemma EVERYONE FACES – you know you want the benefits, results and rewards… But you have to consider and BELIEVE it’s possible. Quite the tug of war isn’t it?

I know. I struggled with it more than 30 years ago. I don’t remember what the trigger or catalyst was, but at some point I decided that the Miser Mentality can’t work – so I gave Boundless Opportunity Thinking a try. Once adopted, I transformed it into my own Exponential Mindset Thinking and the rest as they say is history…

So what “history” will you create for yourself in 2012, 2013, 2014 and beyond…?

Final Status Update

The video below deals with the inevitable electronic archive that survives us… This is an interesting perspective that makes you think beyond the here and now without being morbid.

Email Management Tip

One of the ways I gauge entrepreneurs or business executives’ effectiveness and efficiency is how they respond to their emails. Without requiring ‘instant responses’, within one week of correspondence I can identify the ‘top 10%’ from the bottom ‘90%’.

This is 2012. We are in the 21st century with email at the nucleus of our communication paradigm. Business people who struggle with technology and especially emails are ‘dinosaurs’.

Now that’s a bold statement to make, but it really is THAT important.

Allow me to contrast the top 10% versus the bottom 90%.

The top 10% respond within a reasonable time frame. It can be within the hour, the day, but rarely ever more than 48 hours (unless they are on leave or otherwise occupied with a project/event). One thing is for sure – you’re never wondering if they got or lost the email.

The bottom 90%…

  • Claim to ‘lose’ or not receive emails
  • Ask for emails to be re-sent because they accidentally deleted them
  • Actually do have problems receiving emails because of their spam folder settings that are too strict
  • Are challenged with their spam and junk mail folders – reviewing them only ‘every once in a while’ even though many important emails end up there
  • Have hundreds or thousands of emails in their inbox
  • Respond to emails erratically sometimes immediately and then are ‘offline’ for days with no communication
  • Don’t use meaningful subject lines
  • Don’t maintain message threads that are important – creating new emails with each new response
  • Use TXT acronyms trying to be “hip or groovy” instead of clear in their explanations – creating the need for additional threads to find out what they meant to say
  • Subscribe to every free email list available fearful that they will miss something.
  • Don’t read their emails – instead skimming and overlooking the most important and time sensitive information
  • Have multiple emails that they don’t monitor appropriately
  • Share emails with others so everyone gets the email and multiple people responding with conflicting suggestions
  • Don’t have folders for their emails – so can’t quickly locate what they need when they need it. Even though emails are now indexed, not having folders is like not having a filing cabinet for your physical documents.

Poor email management is one of my strongest pet peeves, but the reason I mention it here is because it’s also symptomatic of poor business management.

Without needing to become a Productivity Powerhouse – lack of effective email management skills (and tools) can be an important obstacle to your overall business success.

Anecdotally, over the past 10 to 15 years, I have noticed that the top business people don’t just manage their emails – the MASTER and CONTROL them with an adeptness that is remarkable.

If you’re struggling to grow your business – just look at your inbox and the list above. It’s a quick and easy problem to solve.

If it isn’t – you now have the SOURCE of the real problem!

Email Overload

Email Marketing, Internet Marketing, Online Marketing, Web MarketingThis is 2011. Forget the Information Age, we’re in the Information Overload Age. I see it every day. People just can’t keep up with it all (even though many waste more than an hour a day on Facebook, but that’s a rant for another day).

As a business person, you need you to read the emails that are important – you are losing a lot more than you know by not reading them.

The problem or challenge is that you have too much junk or spam in your inbox. This is 2011 – DEAL WITH IT.

But let’s face it, it’s not really spam is it?

You’re on everyone’s opt-in list and you don’t want to miss anything that’s FREE…

Well guess what?

It’s not FREE – it’s costing you, dearly.

Each time you or someone who needs to reach you has to re-send an email, it DOUBLES the communication effort. It’s not trivial – with many people sending/receiving more than 100 emails/day, that’s a lot of wasted time and effort ON BOTH SIDES.

In some cases, I stopped dealing with people who can’t respond fast enough. In one supplier’s case it was worth more than $1,000. Gone. Not to mention additional on-going sales or referrals…

You need to find the SOURCE of the problem and get rid of it (excess emails).

For the emails you do need to receive -

Are you skimming them?

Are you distracted when you read them?

In this day and age, I can tell you (anecdotally) that I can gauge someone’s success (or lack thereof) by the efficiency of their email communication.

Simple as that – I know what a ‘reasonable amount of time is to respond’ and when that extends beyond the ‘acceptable’ I know it’s symptomatic.

Symptomatic of a lack of discipline.

A lack of organisation.

A lack of responsiveness.

Lack, lack, lack.

As a business coach, mentor and Exponential Growth Strategist, I figure if you can’t deal with emails you’re not anywhere close to being ready to grow your business.

Facebook Wall Of Shame Infographic

During my recent Business Blogging For Sales Lead Generation event tour in Adelaide, the Gold Coast, Melbourne and Sydney, participants heard a preview of my rant on Privacy Pirates which I’ve been proselytising about for quite some time. Karen Bonanno, a 2011 Exponential Entrepreneur Of The Year Award Winner, sent me the infographic below that I just had to share with you.

I will expand on this in an upcoming Do It Yourself Google Sales Lead Generation For Small Business series of workshops… But in the meantime have a good read of this infographic. You’ll start to get a sense of where I’m coming from and how I am guiding my clients to avoid being victims of the Privacy Pirates.

Why Video Marketing Is So Effective

The Grand Rapids LipDub Video (below) was filmed May 22nd, with 5,000 people and involved a major shutdown of downtown Grand Rapids, which was filled with marching bands, parades, weddings, motorcades, bridges on fire, and helicopter take offs. It is the largest and longest LipDub video, to date.

This video was created as an official response to the Newsweek article calling Grand Rapids a “dying city.” They of course disagreed strongly and wanted to create a video that encompasses the passion and energy they feel is growing exponentially, in this great city.

Rob Bliss, Director & Executive Producer explains that they chose Don McLean’s “American Pie,” a song about death but was in the end, triumphant and filled to the brim with life and hope.”

This $40,000 production was entirely financed by the generosity of local sponsors that are listed below.

This is yet another example of Exponential Mindset Thinking™ in action, leveraging the power and persuasive influence of the Internet. Enjoy this WORLD RECORD SETTING* video!

Japanese Earthquake Radiation: Lessons We Can Learn

Earlier this week, I blogged about how Vaseline and radioactivity are related to make a point – well actually, to illustrate how William Tucker has been able to reduce the fear mongering propaganda of the mass media to simple, easy-to-understand metaphors and analogies that any 5th grader can understand.

Mt Tucker recently added another article to his on-going explanation regarding Infant formula made from Tokyo tap water.

His brilliance is simplifying the otherwise complex into something easy for the layperson to grasp.

One of the key strategies that I will be teaching our elite VIP and Platinum Members this weekend is how to do this systematically.

How to leverage tools like the one below that Mr Tucker shared with us in one of his recent articles.

Every business has hidden assets like this – the key is to know how to use them effectively within an automated approach.

We’ll miss you this weekend.

Fart Proof Your Dog

Fart-Speech-BubbleDid you know you can fart proof your dog? If you’ve ever had a dog with flatulence, you know how valuable this can be.

The Internet Marketing Lesson is that I explained how to leverage this fact to two clients: One leveraged it and the other didn’t.

Which one do you think has doubled sales and tripled profits?

Enough said.

The point is that you have to capture people’s attention – especially on the Internet where people’s attention is measured in seconds.

The proof is in the pudding – I bet you you can’t bear NOT knowing how you can fart proof your dog – EVEN IF YOU DON’T HAVE A DOG!

This is how powerful Killer Kopywriting™ can be. The difference between struggling to get people to your website and having an avalanche of qualified prospects…

Texting to get work

Let me state my bias right up front – I am not into texting or tweeting. I think Twitter is mostly a massive waste of time. Yes – I have a Twitter page and joined Twitter 2 years before it became mainstream.

However there are always exceptions to the rule, like this article in The Economist that explains how people Text for jobs – Very creative and entrepreneurial!

Linked In usage poll

As you’ve come to expect from me and my blogs, I come at things from a different perspective and paradigm. My goal for my blogs is to be the catalyst for ideas that can help you grow your business. The Internet is an exponential tool that can help in countless ways. Today’s post is another example – using tools like Linked In Polls to gather valuable information.

It’s pretty self-explanatory and that’s OK.

Exponential Internet Marketing is not rocket science. It’s all about “doing stuff” that works and having the discipline to follow up and follow through.

Internet Use On Vacation

I just blogged about Internet use on vacation on my Professional Mastery Blog – you should go there now and check it out. It’s something to consider, but it’s not what you think.
