What to do when the Internet is down

The next time your wifi signal drops out or your ADSL line goes dead, here are a few suggestions of what you could do.

Happy New Year!

Be careful with email

As you are receiving e-mail, it’s wise to remember how easily this wonderful technology can be misused, sometimes unintentionally and with serious consequences.

Consider the case of the Michigan man who left the snow-filled streets of Detroit for a vacation in Florida. His wife was on a business trip and was planning to meet him there the next day. When he reached his hotel, he decided to send his wife a quick e-mail.

Unable to find the scrap of paper on which he had written her e-mail address, he did his best to type it in from memory. Unfortunately, he missed one letter and his note was directed instead to an elderly preacher’s wife, whose husband had passed away only the day before. When the grieving widow checked her e-mail, she took one look at the monitor, let out a piercing scream, and fell to the floor in a dead faint. Hearing the scream, her family rushed into the room and saw this note on the screen:

“Dearest Wife,

Just got checked in.

Everything prepared for your arrival tomorrow.

P.S. Sure is hot down here!”

Are You An Internetaholic?

Internet Marketing, Online Lead Sales Generation

Your name was given to us by a spouse or family member who is concerned about your internet addiction. At Internetaholics Anonymous, we can help.

Yes, you–we’re talking to you. You, looking at this screen for hours on end, online. You, bleary eyed. You, an addict.

Have you looked in the mirror lately? Been outside? Know what day of the week it is? Have you checked downstairs to see if your family still lives with you?

We’re a non-profit society of recovering addicts like yourself that provides support and counselling through weekly (off-line) meetings designed to help you cope with your problem.

We feature a twelve-step recovery program and in extreme cases, interventions. Although it is our firm belief that you are never “cured,” you most certainly can recover.

We have designed a brief checklist to determine if you are an addict. Do you:

  1. Have twitches of the hand when you walk by your terminal?
  2. Check e-mail more than five times a day?
  3. Spend more time chatting than eating or sleeping?
  4. Surf aimlessly with no direction, if only to be online?
  5. Leave your name and information at countless sites if only to hope you’ll receive a reply one day from a company you’ll never do business with anyway?
  6. Log on before important personal habits, such as meal preparation, hygiene or bodily functions?
  7. Have red, swollen eyes that hang halfway out of your head?
  8. Spend hours online on a holiday from work, where you’d usually be griping about your carpal tunnel syndrome?
  9. Do you have thousands of friends on Facebook you never want to meet in a million years?
  10. All of the above?

If you answered yes to four or more questions (or chose #10), you have a problem. Please call us at Internetaholics Anonymous at:

1-800-LOGOFFNOWFORPETE’SSAKE

We’re here, we’re free, and we’re confidential. The first step to recovery is admission that you have a problem.

Call us today. That is, if you can power off to free up your phone line.

Facebook Wall Of Shame Infographic

During my recent Business Blogging For Sales Lead Generation event tour in Adelaide, the Gold Coast, Melbourne and Sydney, participants heard a preview of my rant on Privacy Pirates which I’ve been proselytising about for quite some time. Karen Bonanno, a 2011 Exponential Entrepreneur Of The Year Award Winner, sent me the infographic below that I just had to share with you.

I will expand on this in an upcoming Do It Yourself Google Sales Lead Generation For Small Business series of workshops… But in the meantime have a good read of this infographic. You’ll start to get a sense of where I’m coming from and how I am guiding my clients to avoid being victims of the Privacy Pirates.

Internet Technology Translated For Newbies

If you’re a little intimidated by the Internet, this short YouTube video, viewed by more than 10 million people should help you navigate this new and exciting frontier.

One of the Internet Marketing Strategies you need to consider is finding videos like this and sharing them with your suspects, prospects and clients. The important point to remember is that they must be relevant to your audience.

Credit Cards: How Are They Verified?

Ever wonder how a credit card number is verified? A fascinating article, Making Sense of your Credit Card Number published by Digital Inspiration Technology Blog.

You credit card number may look like a random string of 16 digits that’s unique in the world but those digits reveal a little more than you think. For instance, the first digit of the card represents the category of industry which issued your credit card.

American Express is in the travel category and cards issued by them have 3 as the first digit. If you have VISA or MasterCard, your card’s first digit should be either 4 or 5 as they are from the banking and financial industry.

The first six digits of your credit card number identify the institution that issued the card to you. VISA cards follow the series 4xx while MasterCard uses 51-55 as the prefix.

You may even verify if a given credit card number is valid or not using simple addition. The following visual illustration courtesy of Mint.com will help you understand more about the anatomy of your credit card.

Why Video Marketing Is So Effective

The Grand Rapids LipDub Video (below) was filmed May 22nd, with 5,000 people and involved a major shutdown of downtown Grand Rapids, which was filled with marching bands, parades, weddings, motorcades, bridges on fire, and helicopter take offs. It is the largest and longest LipDub video, to date.

This video was created as an official response to the Newsweek article calling Grand Rapids a “dying city.” They of course disagreed strongly and wanted to create a video that encompasses the passion and energy they feel is growing exponentially, in this great city.

Rob Bliss, Director & Executive Producer explains that they chose Don McLean’s “American Pie,” a song about death but was in the end, triumphant and filled to the brim with life and hope.”

This $40,000 production was entirely financed by the generosity of local sponsors that are listed below.

This is yet another example of Exponential Mindset Thinking™ in action, leveraging the power and persuasive influence of the Internet. Enjoy this WORLD RECORD SETTING* video!

Fart Proof Your Dog

Fart-Speech-BubbleDid you know you can fart proof your dog? If you’ve ever had a dog with flatulence, you know how valuable this can be.

The Internet Marketing Lesson is that I explained how to leverage this fact to two clients: One leveraged it and the other didn’t.

Which one do you think has doubled sales and tripled profits?

Enough said.

The point is that you have to capture people’s attention – especially on the Internet where people’s attention is measured in seconds.

The proof is in the pudding – I bet you you can’t bear NOT knowing how you can fart proof your dog – EVEN IF YOU DON’T HAVE A DOG!

This is how powerful Killer Kopywriting™ can be. The difference between struggling to get people to your website and having an avalanche of qualified prospects…

The 7 habits of highly annoying emailers

7 Habits Of Annoying EmailersI came across this insightful article by Dudley B. Dawson

Below are seven habits that consistently appear at offices across the world. If you have additional examples, please feel free to provide them in the comments below.

1. Including email signatures that include credentials like “MBA” or “HRMS” after their name. Existing readers are well aware of the distaste for credentials in email signatures as described in “Email Signatures: Adding “MBA” after your name is very telling“. [Note – I disagree in principle with this, but will leave that for another blog post – this article is about Dudley’s list, not mine.]

2. Adding clipart to your email. Often the work of administrative assistants, human resources, or other corporate cheerleaders. To think that when these people attach the clipart they imagine recipients smiling. This is called reputation distortion. Those who think others believe them to be a cheery person are actually the people most despised by the office. Clipart photos are to corporate cheerleaders as rainbows are to the GLBT.  Immediate and universal identification. Continue reading ‘The 7 habits of highly annoying emailers’

Exponential Internet Marketing Bootcamp Day 3 Of 3

Well, this is the last day of the Exponential Internet Marketing Bootcamp… What an exciting 2 days it’s been – hundreds of ideas (most of them free) to get more online traffic that converts to sales. Here’s the last thing I want to say about this last edition of this version of the Bootcamp.

With like-minded people in the room, there is a magical experience that gets created – it’s called The Exponential MasterMind Experience. It’s special because it works like magic. We’re actually ‘doing it’ live at the Marriott Hotel in Melbourne… You’re unfortunately not there – your fallback is to get the audio program and determine if an Exponential Mindset™ is for you.

Click here -> to get the Exponential Mastermind Program.

You’ve been left behind, this will help you get back on track to catch up – IF you want to produce results that baffle your competitors and impress your friends and colleagues.

You have to believe it works, otherwise, you’re right – it won’t work for you.

But when you believe, the results are well… E-X-P-O-N-E-N-T-I-A-L.

Ka-Ching!

Video technology the next steps…

This blog is about introducing you to the latest and greatest stuff that’s out there, believe you me, this is “out there”. Watch and enjoy! Of course if you come across anything like this, please forward it on to me by leaving a comment on this blog.

If Facebook existed years ago…

As you might already know, I am not a fan of Facebook. As Betty White proclaimed on NBC’s (US TV network) Saturday Night Live after a Facebook campaign created enough buzz to make it happen AND make it one of the highest rated shows ever… “I didn’t know what Facebook was… Now that I know I think it’s a massive waste of time.” I concur. Unless you’re Betty White and you have a lot of people willing to waste their time for your benefit… Well you can decipher my bias.

That’s why when Michael Pye of Sydney sent me these images, I thought they were hilarious! Michael’s wife Bronwyn Pye is a Sydney Chiropractor click on the hyperlink to check out her site.

Free!

I have to admit that the whole concept of things being free gets out of hand sometimes… I came across this cartoon when I was in San Francisco recently… It sure hits home when you think of all the stuff people download from the Internet and never read or watch. They just automatically download it because it’s free…

I teach my clients to value their time and concepts called “Concentration Of Focus” and the “1 Touch Rule” to make the effective and efficient with their time and resources so they can get 3 times more done in half the time…

Video Marketing Tip For Professionals

One of my mottos is that life’s too short to be too serious. The world I attach to this way of thinking is what I call Antimimeticisomorphism. Having FUN doing out-of-the-ordinary things that create extra-ordinary results with the least amount of effort and lowest cost. Click on the hyperlink to find out more… But today’s YouTube video is something that rings true for most of us – not looking forward to going to the dentist… Watch the video and I’ll get to how a dentist can use this to grow his practice.

This video’s fun to watch even though you always kind of know what’s coming. It takes something most people don’t enjoy and makes light of it.

The exponential leverage is achieved by…
