Shift Happens

We all know SHIFT HAPPENS. But wouldn’t it be nice to have 20/20 Foresight?

Consider these digital disruptions:*

  • The world’s largest taxi company owns no taxis (Uber)
  • The largest accommodation provider owns no real estate (AirBnB)
  • The biggest communication companies own no infrastructure (networks) (Skype, WeChat)
  • The most valuable retailer has no inventory or stores (Alibaba)
  • The most popular media owner creates no content (Facebook)
  • The fastest growing banks have no money (SocietyOne)
  • The world’s largest movie house owns no cinemas (Netflix)
  • The largest software vendors in the world don’t write their own apps (Apple and Google)

SHIFT HAPPENS … At an unprecedented rate. Click on the hyperlink to see how the world has changed just since 2006 when the video was created – SHOCKING!

* Thank you to Andrew Powell of Montreal, Canada for submitting this amazing list!

Moneyball – Antimimeticisomorphism at its best

As a reader or subscriber to this blog, you’ve seen countless examples of antimimeticisomorphism. Antimimeticisomorphism is defined as having fun doing out-of-the-ordinary things that create extra-ordinary results with the least amount of effort and lowest cost.

The video excerpt below is taken from the major motion picture movie adaptation of Michael Lewis’ bestselling book – Moneyball.

If you have a small business, with limited resources and budget constraints – shouldn’t you consider a DIFFERENT approach that can yield extra-ordinary results?

Contact us and we’ll show how it’s done. We have coached and mentoring hundreds of small business entrepreneurs like you to defy the odds, rewrite the playbook and win the game.

Lead generation the easy way

Today’s blog post is special. I know you hear that a lot, but bear with me and determine for yourself if what I  reveal below is valuable, maybe even priceless for you.

In today’s world, we know you have to be online to get new leads and you have to have a preeminent presence NOT to lose the sales that are on their way to you. I know it sounds harsh, but if your website sucks, prospects are going to avoid you, simple as that. Prospects who were considering purchasing from you will now buy from your competitor.

That’s pretty obvious, but so is lead generation – but then again is it really?

The fundamental building block of online lead generation is Search Engine Optimisation (SEO). The problem is how to do it EFFECTIVELY and EFFICIENTLY.

Effectiveness comes from doing the right things and efficiency from spending the least amount of time, effort and/or cost doing it.

So what’s so special about today’s post then?

Glad you’re still reading and interested.

First of all, I want you to click on this link —> it’s a Funny Puppy Video. Go have a look and then come back here…

How To Learn Something New

What I love to do is uncover “lies” that distract or distort people’s reality or perceptions of reality…

For example, I think Malcolm Gladwell is one of the best business non-fiction writers around. His book Outliers was a phenomenon for non-academically inclined business people. He brought the world of ‘Expert Performance‘ to the layperson in easily digestible prose and great storytelling.

Internet Support

It was so easy to learn new stuff when we were young… Why is that?!?!?

Unfortunately, people associated learning something new with the 10,000 hour rule. What most people might not fully consider is that for someone to master or become an expert in anything takes… 10,000 hours.

But to learn something new, according to Josh Kaufman in this Ted Talk, takes only 20 hoursIF you use the same principles as the experts, champions and so-called child prodigies – Deliberate practice.

Easier said than done, but then again it actually is easy when you know WHAT to do and HOW to do it.

As The Exponential Growth Strategist, this is what I do for our clients. (1) I uncover the big “lies” that distract and distort reality. (2) I give them the foundational principles like deliberate practice so they can start the process and most importantly, (3) I follow up and follow through with the guidance and mentoring they need to achieve results in record time – with the least amount of effort and lowest cost possible.

The number 1 impediment is not your ability to do “it”, but the mindset that permeates your current reality – if you think it takes 10,000 to learn a new skill, you won’t start to learn anything new because who the hell has 10,000 free hours?!?!

BUT…

If it only takes 20 hours to learn any new skill, then it means you could learn something NEW every month in 2014… Hmmm… How much would THAT change your life, shift your destiny?

Say hello to your New Year’s Resolutions!

One of the key foundational principles I teach our Platinum Members is that the more you become proficient in one aspect of your life or career, the harder it becomes for you to replicate that in acquiring another new skill. KNOWING why is the missing link most “successful people” lack to create their next big accomplishment.

It is the number 1 source of frustration and disappointment in accomplished individuals, especially when it comes to Internet Marketing and online lead generation.

Contact us and we’ll help you overcome these psychological barriers and unleash the exponential potential that is within you. It’ll only take 20 hours, not 10,000.

Feeling like a hostage to your web design / IT supplier?

Web Design Services, Get Rid Of Your Web DesignerMany small business people treat one of their most precious assets as an afterthought, rather than as one of their most precious assets. It’s not inconceivable for a website to be worth $100,000+ when there is a legitimate brick and mortar business “behind it”.

Put differently, years ago, when you bought a Yellow Pages ad, you’d SPEND thousands of dollars with NO appreciation in the capital asset value of the phone book. With the Internet, every dollar spent on your website should increase its capital value. Think about it this way – if you were assess two identical businesses, one with a website and the other without one, which one would YOU buy?  Enough said.

Most small businesses don’t proactively deal with their website and/or web online presence for a long list of reasons including:

  • “I don’t get all this Interweb stuff”
  • “I don’t like Facebook and don’t understand why people waste so much time ‘talking’ to complete strangers”
  • “My son-in-law, nephew or neighbour seems to understand it and is not charging me much to handle my website…”
  • “Technology is changing too quickly, I can’t keep up.”
  • “I don’t get any web inquiries so it’s not worth worrying about.”
  • “My staff’s taking care of it, in fact, we all kinda pitch in to get stuff done.”*

Whatever your excuses, as a small business person, in this day and age you simply cannot hand over your online presence to just anyone anymore than you would give them the pin code to your bank card. I am totally serious.

Email Overload

Email Marketing, Internet Marketing, Online Marketing, Web MarketingThis is 2011. Forget the Information Age, we’re in the Information Overload Age. I see it every day. People just can’t keep up with it all (even though many waste more than an hour a day on Facebook, but that’s a rant for another day).

As a business person, you need you to read the emails that are important – you are losing a lot more than you know by not reading them.

The problem or challenge is that you have too much junk or spam in your inbox. This is 2011 – DEAL WITH IT.

But let’s face it, it’s not really spam is it?

You’re on everyone’s opt-in list and you don’t want to miss anything that’s FREE…

Well guess what?

It’s not FREE – it’s costing you, dearly.

Each time you or someone who needs to reach you has to re-send an email, it DOUBLES the communication effort. It’s not trivial – with many people sending/receiving more than 100 emails/day, that’s a lot of wasted time and effort ON BOTH SIDES.

In some cases, I stopped dealing with people who can’t respond fast enough. In one supplier’s case it was worth more than $1,000. Gone. Not to mention additional on-going sales or referrals…

You need to find the SOURCE of the problem and get rid of it (excess emails).

For the emails you do need to receive -

Are you skimming them?

Are you distracted when you read them?

In this day and age, I can tell you (anecdotally) that I can gauge someone’s success (or lack thereof) by the efficiency of their email communication.

Simple as that – I know what a ‘reasonable amount of time is to respond’ and when that extends beyond the ‘acceptable’ I know it’s symptomatic.

Symptomatic of a lack of discipline.

A lack of organisation.

A lack of responsiveness.

Lack, lack, lack.

As a business coach, mentor and Exponential Growth Strategist, I figure if you can’t deal with emails you’re not anywhere close to being ready to grow your business.

Facebook Wall Of Shame Infographic

During my recent Business Blogging For Sales Lead Generation event tour in Adelaide, the Gold Coast, Melbourne and Sydney, participants heard a preview of my rant on Privacy Pirates which I’ve been proselytising about for quite some time. Karen Bonanno, a 2011 Exponential Entrepreneur Of The Year Award Winner, sent me the infographic below that I just had to share with you.

I will expand on this in an upcoming Do It Yourself Google Sales Lead Generation For Small Business series of workshops… But in the meantime have a good read of this infographic. You’ll start to get a sense of where I’m coming from and how I am guiding my clients to avoid being victims of the Privacy Pirates.

How good are you on the Internet?

In a recent article,”Companies in the dark over converting web traffic into sales” it was reported that sixty per cent of Australian companies with an online presence have no idea how to convert website visitors into customers.

More than 300 Australian marketers were surveyed through independent research with the report also revealing 89% of companies don’t use tools to assess how people use their sites.

Moreover, the companies surveyed spend 40% of their budget attracting traffic to their website.

Some 30% of marketers either do not evaluate the success of their website or only evaluate on an annual basis.

A further 25% assess their website biennially. This lack of engagement and measurement of their websites means most marketers have no idea what small simple changes could be made to their websites to increase sales.

Isn’t this alarming?

So how do you stack up to these stats?

If you want help to grow your online presence and bottom-line results, give us a call. We have a RESULTS GUARANTEED Platinum Program that will have you out-performing and out-selling your competitors in no time – if you qualify!

Why Video Marketing Is So Effective

The Grand Rapids LipDub Video (below) was filmed May 22nd, with 5,000 people and involved a major shutdown of downtown Grand Rapids, which was filled with marching bands, parades, weddings, motorcades, bridges on fire, and helicopter take offs. It is the largest and longest LipDub video, to date.

This video was created as an official response to the Newsweek article calling Grand Rapids a “dying city.” They of course disagreed strongly and wanted to create a video that encompasses the passion and energy they feel is growing exponentially, in this great city.

Rob Bliss, Director & Executive Producer explains that they chose Don McLean’s “American Pie,” a song about death but was in the end, triumphant and filled to the brim with life and hope.”

This $40,000 production was entirely financed by the generosity of local sponsors that are listed below.

This is yet another example of Exponential Mindset Thinking™ in action, leveraging the power and persuasive influence of the Internet. Enjoy this WORLD RECORD SETTING* video!

Why you can’t “set and forget” a website

Recently, I was reviewing infomercials (they are a great source of creative ideas). A popular TV pitchman had the audience repeating the mantra, “just set it and forget it!

Website Set And Forget

Set And Forget Might Work For BBQ Chicken, But Not Your Website

While this might be an exciting idea for a dinner appliance, it’s suicide for your website. Like a car or a house, your website requires regular, on-going maintenance.

What is “Website Maintenance”?

I define website maintenance as both the art and science of keeping a website current in both technology and (Killer Kopy™) content. That means assuring proper functionality (how users move around the pages), verifying the accuracy of copy, fixing any broken links and images as well as performing an overall brand/positioning assessment of the site to make sure it reflects how you and /or your company wants to be perceived online.

An easy metaphor to explain website maintenance is home maintenance.

You can take a look at your home for light bulbs that need to be replaced, look to see if there are any new cracks in the foundation, maybe a room needs some new paint, tiles or carpet.

The same is true of your website. It’s good practice to review your site at least once a month.

Website review tips:

  • Check date sensitive content such as an announcement of an upcoming event. After the date passes, it should no longer be “upcoming” and the date or deadline changed. The longer the old date remains, the more out-of-date your website appears to your visitors.
  • Even though computers “don’t make mistakes”, functional elements of your website including contact us forms, event registrations, product purchase links and other e-commerce and database functionality should be checked. Often, these break due to an indirect parameter being changed somewhere else on the site. You don’t need to check everything each month, just run a random spot check or pick a section of your site each month to review.
  • Check external links (links to other sites) on your site. There are several free utilities that can provide this function for you. Recently, I had someone send me an email with a link in her signature that was broken…
  • You should review as many pages on your site as you can, paying special attention to the links in the navigation bar(s), make sure the visual elements appear correctly on all pages. This can be done very quickly to find the most obvious errors.
  • Check for images that are not displaying correctly or have the dreaded “red x”. This can usually be done by skimming the pages quickly – you may realise that some images load too slowly (all you need to do is reduce the file’s resolution to a web optimised format.)

I highly recommend taking notes as you do your website review. You’ll get ideas for immediate and future improvement that can become part of your tactical and strategic deployment respectively.

What do you do when you find an issue?

Japanese Earthquake Radiation: Lessons We Can Learn

Earlier this week, I blogged about how Vaseline and radioactivity are related to make a point – well actually, to illustrate how William Tucker has been able to reduce the fear mongering propaganda of the mass media to simple, easy-to-understand metaphors and analogies that any 5th grader can understand.

Mt Tucker recently added another article to his on-going explanation regarding Infant formula made from Tokyo tap water.

His brilliance is simplifying the otherwise complex into something easy for the layperson to grasp.

One of the key strategies that I will be teaching our elite VIP and Platinum Members this weekend is how to do this systematically.

How to leverage tools like the one below that Mr Tucker shared with us in one of his recent articles.

Every business has hidden assets like this – the key is to know how to use them effectively within an automated approach.

We’ll miss you this weekend.

Exponential Internet Marketing Bootcamp Day 3 Of 3

Well, this is the last day of the Exponential Internet Marketing Bootcamp… What an exciting 2 days it’s been – hundreds of ideas (most of them free) to get more online traffic that converts to sales. Here’s the last thing I want to say about this last edition of this version of the Bootcamp.

With like-minded people in the room, there is a magical experience that gets created – it’s called The Exponential MasterMind Experience. It’s special because it works like magic. We’re actually ‘doing it’ live at the Marriott Hotel in Melbourne… You’re unfortunately not there – your fallback is to get the audio program and determine if an Exponential Mindset™ is for you.

Click here -> to get the Exponential Mastermind Program.

You’ve been left behind, this will help you get back on track to catch up – IF you want to produce results that baffle your competitors and impress your friends and colleagues.

You have to believe it works, otherwise, you’re right – it won’t work for you.

But when you believe, the results are well… E-X-P-O-N-E-N-T-I-A-L.

Ka-Ching!

Exponential Internet Marketing Bootcamp Day 2 Of 3

As I mentioned yesterday, we’re at the Marriott Hotel, staging the last of the Exponential Internet Marketing Bootcamps - ever. We’re not opening it up to the general public anymore, we’re going to keep the content for our most privileged clients – our Platinum Program Members… That being said, there is one concept that you can gain instant access to, it’s called Virtual Real Estate and as I’ve mentioned previously on several occasions, the program will be re-branded, re-formatted and the price substantially increased. At this price, it’s an absolute bargain because it introduces you to the concept that we’re leveraging for brick and mortar businesses every day. Plumbers, dentists, engineers, doggy day care centres, consultants, you name it.

Social Media Marketing is a time consuming waste of time – UNLESS you know what you’re doing and how to do it properly.

This is a program that can save you in excess of 200 hours of searching plus a lot of the information in the bonuses you simply would never find on your own.

Go ahead and click here on the hyperlink here – to find out about Virtual Real Estate.

At the Bootcamp, I am spending 3 hours explaining this concept in detail – not for people to actually Flip Websites For Profit, but to leverage the business model to create an endless stream of qualified prospects walking into their stores or businesses that become paying clients.

Imagine having a lead generation system that is free. That’s right, new leads that don’t cost you a cent.

That’s what Bootcamp attendees are learning about this weekend – you’re not there, so the next best thing you can do is get the online video program and try to get as much from it as you can. Otherwise you’re wasting a lot time and effort for… nothing.

There is a better way, an exponential way of doing things.

Google Goggles

This video speaks for itself – it’s very entertaining and demonstrates how to make information fun to learn.

Additional applications of augmented reality are quite fascinating.

Some 1% improvement is NOT worth doing

As a business coach to entrepreneurs and business people who want to increase sales and expand their businesses, I advocate the 1 Percent Improvement Doctrine. It’s a concept that is covered on Day 3 of my Bootcamp events when we cover the concepts of Pathways To Profits™ and determining your Next Best Step™. With Internet strategies there are so many things to do, the most important question is “what should I focus on?”

That is the “million dollar question”.

At my upcoming Exponential Internet Marketing Bootcamp, I will, for the last time, reveal how to do this for non-Platinum Program Members. The process takes a few hours to learn, but once mastered, you will always do the right thing, at the right time for the right reason/outcome.

It’s a simple, easy-to-learn methodology that I’ve developed to re-create success for over 2,000 businesses across 200 industries over the past 20 years. In fact, the strategies are so effective that I now GUARANTEE RESULTS when you attend the Bootcamp as a VIP Ticket holder.

As a business coach I don’t just reveal strategies, techniques and tactics that work, I advise and mentor my clients to learn to do it themselves. That is why I am The Exponential Growth Strategist and not “just a business coach“.

The saying “teach a man how to fish and he’ll feed himself for a lifetime” is true with business coaching, but most coaches don’t have the competency to teach, they consult and create a dependency with their clients to ensure they need them so their personal income is “secured”. I don’t do that. I make sure I teach people how to think exponentially leveraging a MasterMind Group of the most ambitious entrepreneurs around.

Why is this important? Because success on the Internet is about doing what works. Finding that out is a process. If you want to know how my clients do it, contact us and we’ll reveal the secrets to you, but you should know that this upcoming Exponential Internet Marketing Bootcamp is the last one I’m doing. That means in 2011, you’ll have to be a Platinum Program Member to learn these strategies.

I’m going ‘upmarket’ with my most valuable information and strategies. I will still have introductory seminars and workshops, but the most powerful will be reserved exclusively for those willing to pay for it. Their reward will be that I GUARANTEE RESULTS. I would think you’d agree that’s not just fair, that makes good business sense.

That’s the whole point, it’s win-win.. Ka-Ching!

A shocking new fact about Google

Google Page 2 ‘Almost’ As Good As Page 1? Google recently reported that 38 to 45% of people searching on Google immediately click to page 2 because too many people are manipulating keywords to be on Page 1. That means you now need to be both on Page 1 and Page 2…

“The Internet is the easiest thing that is hard to do.”

As a business coach, advisor and mentor, I teach my clients little known facts like these to make sure they are always one step ahead of the competition. There’s a joke that explains this metaphorically:

There are two guys in the forest and they come across a bear. One says to the other “Oh SH_ _! We have to out-run the bear!” when the other says “No mate, all I have to do is out-run you!”

That’s the reality of Google rankings. If you want to make sure you’re always one step ahead of your competition, contact us. Most of our programs now come with a RESULTS-BASED GUARANTEE.

That says it all don’t you think?

Google And The Internet Are Controlling Our Minds

There is a great article on CNN’s website that summarises Nicholas Carr’s new book called “The Shallows: What the Internet is Doing to our Brains“. It reflects what I see in business people and entrepreneurs every day. People struggling to cope with more and more information, lacking the cognitive and reasoning skills to handle it. In this day and age, deep knowledge is increasingly important when technology and Internet allows us to be intellectually lazy and superficial. This is exacerbated with social networking where people spend countless hours with like-minded people, further narrowing their breadth of exposure to (the lack of) differing viewpoints and perspectives.

This is one of the foundational principles I teach my clients as a business coach, advisor and mentor. I challenge people to think, evaluate and analyse problems and situations differently. My process, methodology and framework will be presented at my upcoming event “Etch-A-Sketch Thinking In The iPad Age“. If you want to learn how to learn, think and reason in this quickly changing world, attend the event. The strategies are so good, I actually back them up with a $5,000 results-based guarantee.

This blog does a great job introducing you to ideas and concepts, but it’s superficial, just an overview. That’s the problem today. People wrongly consider information as intelligence and knowledge. Information is just bits and bytes of data. Intellect and knowledge is the ability to do something with that information.

It’s what engineers do when they problem solve.

It’s what lawyers do when they interpret the law.

It’s what physicians do when they diagnose illness.

It takes time, skill and a PROCESS.

Otherwise you’re just “surfing the web” thinking you can build your own house, defend your own case and cure your disease.

That’s the problem in a nutshell.

The solution is right between your ears. The question is will you do anything about it?

Business Bootcamp Graduate Leverages Internet Strategies

On the last night of every Exponential Business Building Bootcamp there is a session on Internet Strategies where participants can ask any question to increase their online traffic, sales and/or conversions. The Internet Marketing Strategies we teach are proven and tested for real brick and mortar businesses – not the spam like ‘link building’ and other affiliate marketing strategies associated with get rich quick schemes.

This November, in Melbourne, we’re staging the last Exponential Internet Marketing Bootcamp. We’re not abandoning Internet Marketing Strategies, we’re just going to restrict access to our Platinum Program Members. As I’ve mentioned before, there are too many Internet Marketing Spruikers out there selling empty dreams at multi-speaker salesfest events. We don’t want to be associated with that genre. We’re focused on producing GUARANTEED RESULTS for our clients.

Today’s post is an example from Ray Keefe of Successful Endeavours. At this year’s Exponential Business Building Bootcamp, I explained how to blog to optimise Search Engine Optimisation for new lead generation as well as improving your Google Keyword Ranking. Ray, as a multi-award winner, knows that you need to take action to create results.

His latest blog post, called Squash Lessons For Engineering is an ideal example of how to do it. It’s a derivative of my Squash Lessons For Marketing and another case study in how to grow your business exponentially leveraging my 1 Percent Improvement Doctrine. Too many people chase the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow when all the success, wealth, health and happiness is right there, within their reach – if only they knew what to do and how to do it… That’s why you should seriously consider attending one of our events – our programs now include a RESULTS BASED GUARANTEE.

Beware of Old Wine In New Bottles: SKYPE

I’ve been using Skype more and more, but as I do, some people just don’t get it. New technology means NEW ways of working. Not OLD wine in new bottles as one of my Ph.D. professors used to keep saying when academic research was just a re-hash of what we already knew…

Skype is powerful technology – but it can also KILL your productivity if you let it. BECAUSE it has IM chat capabilities, some people think they can just send me chat messages and EXPECT A RESPONSE….

Y’see that’s the same as taking all your phone or mobile calls directly – you end up being a receptionist.

Time value… I’ve discussed this so many times before, but it bears repeating…

What do you value your time at?

At the upcoming Exponential Extravaganza event, I’m going to go into this into more detail, but essentially it’s summarised that if you want to make $100,000/year, every hour you need to create $100 of value per hour. If you want to make $250,000/year, you need to create $250 of value per hour…

So how can you do that if you answer IM or TXT messages in real time?

Something to think about… Something someone with an Exponential Mindset™ considers VERY seriously…

What’s In A Domain Name?

Most companies automatically choose their company name as their domain name. While that’s a wise move, it’s often a BIG mistake to stop there. In fact you could be losing as much as 75% of your leads because of it – keep reading if you want to avoid making this Internet Marketing Mistake!

Testing multiple domain names and picking the one that performs best (for example, in Google AdWords ads) is a very profitable strategy. Continue reading ‘What’s In A Domain Name?’
