Thanks, Marc. This video provides another perspective on the impact of one’s digital footprint. For me, as an educator, I’m always keen on getting this message across to teachers and young people at school.

The education webinars I offer at http://www.schoollibrarymanagement.com/webinars/ are designed to help teachers get up to speed on the integration of technology in classroom programs and the importance of developing skills in digital media literacy. One webinar was about digital citizenship and 5 essential skills that students need — functional skills, communication skills, ‘being safe’ skills, digital literary skills and collaborative skills (the presentation can be viewed in the webinar archives section).

For our young folk to survive and thrive in a high-tech world they really need to have a strong skill base.

An excellent eye-opener.

Another important tip is to open an email only once and deal with it. That way you can file it away or trash it instead of wasting time getting back to the email later.

Great post Marc.

We also see this with our clients who want a new Electronics Product with all the features they can think of so it will appeal to the widest range of end users possible. What they end up with is something that is either:
- too complex to design cost effectively
- too hard to use
- too expensive
- or several possible combinations of all the above

Success requires focus. This is both a personal issue and a product or service issue.

Both Privacy and Identity theft are big issues today. I must say I do find Facebook useful and it was a great way to see a bit more of what went on in our teenagers lives. And that of course is part of the issue Marc raises. We did that because we care but others can do it for reasons of their own that may not be in our children’s best interests.

And I agree with Daniel, this style of communicating the information is a lot more powerful than just putting up facts and figures as text.

Now that made me laugh. They almost lost it themselves.

Sometimes as an engineer I forget how many words we use in the technology realm that have different meanings in more conventional surroundings.

Some that come to mind are:
- resistance
- reluctance
- capacity
- current
- call
- return
- boot

They have one defined meaning for technology and another for ordinary life.
