Gmail Spam

If you hate Gmail spam as much as I do, you can click on the hyperlink to report it. I am not sure how diligent Google is about reducing spam, but if everyone who got spammed took the time to report it, we might actually find a way to reduce it.

Anyway, everyone hates spam and this is my 1% improvement to help reduce it.

Something tells me if Google spent as much time on this as they do with their complex Google Adwords rules engine, they’d rid the world of spam within the next 3 or 4 weeks!

  • Hi Marc,

This is good advice. Make the problem a commercial one where Google is spending money through employee time on responding to spam reports and they then can do the sums and decide that a proactive rather than reactive fix is a financial winner.

It should work the same way in the world of Electronics Manufacture where the decision to invest in Product Development through Electronics Design and Embedded Software Development can return significant profits if you go about it the right way. Another example of fixing a problem through investment rather than ignoring it to the detriment of all. There are actually 2 losers when you decide not to get the right level of expertise involved in the development of a new Electronics Product. The first one is the Electronics Manufacturer who doesn’t make the profits they should have. The other loser of course is the customers in the marketplace who don’t have the option to buy the better product.

The best example of doing this right at the moment is Apple who are spending the money developing world class market leading electronics products that are hitting the mark and giving their customers products that delight them to the extent that they rave about them. They could not have got that reaction if the products were ‘me too’ or mimeticisomorphic. They are being antimimeticisomorphic and so getting way better than average results. This is clear after the event. The success is obvious. It was the courage to do it before it was proven that has really paid off here.

For those who don’t know, a new electronics product with significant embedded software associated with it can start development up to 2 years before it comes to market. Most of the products we develop come to market within a year of the project commencing but either way, you are choosing to invest ahead of any proof that it will work out profitably let alone a screaming success like the iPod, iPhone and iPad have been. The momentum Apple have built is so huge that the iPad was a success in people’s minds before they sold the first one. That only happened because they made sure the iPod was everything it needed to be to take the market by storm.

When Research and Development is treated like and investment, the business case is thoroughly worked out, and Electronics Design and Embedded Software Development are funded at the right level to meet the business case requirements, The return on investment beats any other form of investment you can name.
