What is “the putative central governor”?

In extreme sports, the putative central governor is a proposed regulatory process within the brain that limits physical exertion and causes the sensation of fatigue to protect the body’s internal stability (homeostasis) and prevent catastrophic organ damage.

  • Proposed Mechanism: The model suggests that the subconscious brain controls how many muscle fibers are recruited during exercise. When the brain determines that continued exertion poses a risk to vital organs (like the heart or brain itself), it reduces the neural signals to the muscles, leading to a decrease in performance and a feeling of fatigue.
  • Anticipation, Not Catastrophe: This regulation happens in anticipation of potential damage, rather than as a direct consequence of a system failure. This is why athletes can often accelerate at the end of a race (when the brain “perceives” the finish line and understands the risk window is closing), even if they felt exhausted moments before.

The central governor remains a subject of ongoing scientific debate, but it has profoundly influenced the understanding of athletic performance and training… So what does it have to do with business management?

Great question.

Have you ever felt as though ‘something’ is conspiring against you?

Especially when you’re 1,000% committed and somehow you don’t quite step up to meet the moment?

IKR?

That could be the putative central governor, or it could be…

A habit.

Yes, a habit.

An obscure habit you developed a LONG time ago that is so ingrained, you’re completely oblivious to it – even though it affects you (negatively) every single day.

IKR? When I learned about this, it totally blew my mind and over the next 2-3 days, I tested the premise and was SHOCKED by the reality of this TRUTH and how to overcome it. It was life-changing for me and my clients, unleashing so much “Exponential Potential” they knew was at their disposal. They (as I) didn’t know how to UNLOCK IT.

This is an example of the priceless and timeless insights I share in my revolutionary “My Best Year Ever Program“.
