Think before you speak…

This Professional Mastery Blog covers all the elements you need to run up the corporate or business ladder of success two rungs at a time. Sometimes avoiding a stumble is as valuable as learning what your Next Best Step™ is… We have a brand new event called Become The Next Corporate Rockstar that teaches public speaking skills you want to master to develop greater influence and persuasion without sounding like a spruiker.

Here are six reasons why you should think before you speak – The last one is great!

Have you ever spoken and wished that you could immediately take the words back… Here are some examples of a few people who did…

Case Study #1:

I walked into a hair salon with my husband and three kids in tow and asked loudly, “How much do you charge for a shampoo and a blow job?

I turned around and walked back out and never went back.

My husband didn’t say a word…

He knew better. Continue reading ‘Think before you speak…’

How to be a great speaker: Lesson From Bill Clinton

Regardless of your political leanings, Bill Clinton is known the world over as a great communicator. One of the many skills he uses to influence and persuade audiences is to end each sentence looking at ONE person to give him or her the sense he’s speaking to him or her ONLY.

Try it the next time you present to a small group. If you can, start and end with the same person. If you can’t do that,  consciously make the effort to END each sentence with someone in the audience.

Watch for the signs of enhanced rapport and let me know how it works out for you.

As I have said many times over, each 1 percent improvement makes a difference. Over time, these strategies will become second nature to you, as they have for Bill Clinton and other great orators.

If you want to learn to become a better public speaker, look into our 2-day Unleash The Speaker Within event that we stage annually or one of our 1-day Superstar Speaker Series events Super Star Speaking Skills, Persuasive Presentation Principles or TurboCharging PowerPoint.

Not sure if public speaking is for you? Attend our 3-hour How To Become A Corporate Rockstar event that gives you a quick overview and introduction…

When was the last time you were on National TV?

Our Professional Mastery Programs are all about you BECOMING the best YOU you can be. For some, like David Conroy if means appearing on National Television! David Conroy of The Lone Drainer And Pronto, Sydney’s Premier Plumber in the Eastern suburbs has been blogging for about a year, he might not consider himself a blogging expert nor would he say he’s a public speaker, but y’know what? David has mastered the art of blogging and is just as comfortable on national TV as he is talking to you face to face.

CLICK the hyperlink to watch David’s interview about the complaints about Sydney’s desalinated water.

David is a graduate of our Unleash The Speaker Within program. If you’d like to get that kind of confidence in front of the camera, contact us and we’ll show you how to become the next corporate rockstar.

Great Footy Quotes

At the recent inaugural edition of Unleash The Speaker Within event, we covered the importance of using humour to communicate with your audience. Within the program curriculum, we supplied several supporting documentation to assist people in developing a wide repertoire of content so they can cherry pick the best ones. Today’s blog post will be added to one of those documents, but I thought I would share it with you – it’s from Mario Kalogiannis, featured in his final presentation below. He is a partner at the Epago Group.

Unleash The Speaker Within Presentation: Gerard Spriet

At Unleash The Speaker Within, we had several ‘spotlight’ sessions where participants presented to the group. This series of presentations shows what people can do. You should know the rules they had to work with. NO NOTES, final presentation is to be +/- 3 minutes (as long as the core message is delivered). The message can be anything they want to use in their conversation with a client or prospect. Oh yeah, no double takes and no editing – unless there was a technical glitch. They knew this was going to go live on YouTube. Sound easy? Give it a go and see how it feels…

The first presentation is Gerard Spriet of Geelong’s Gym – does he look fabulous or what?!?! His story is inspiring – do unto others as you would want done unto you + the Law Of Attraction will reward you in ways you could never expect!

Leadership And Music

Just in case you don’t know, I don’t yet play a musical instrument. I thought I should make that clear just in case you think this video is about music – it’s not. It’s a long video, a full 20 minutes, but it’s worth watching (otherwise why would I blog about it?) Seriously now, it’s worth putting the time aside later tonight or over the weekend to watch how a master communicator does it – humorously and passionately.

I know that as a Professional Mastery enthusiast, you’ll agree that not only was this video worth watching – it was so good I know you’ll forward this blog link to a handful of people who’ll in turn thank you for it.

The reason this video is on this blog and not one of my other blogs is because it’s all about how to present your ideas, thoughts and feelings in a convincing, heartfelt manner that is enjoyable, enlightening and entertaining.

If you seek to achieve this outcome, one of the best strategies is to learn from those who do it best.

I teach these principles in our landmark event called Unleash The Speaker Within. Today’s blog post is one of several examples you’ll get as a participant, to hone your craft as a public speaker.

By the way, this video was forwarded to me by Sydney’s Premier Plumber, David Conroy of The Lone Drainer And Pronto, a graduate of the 2009 Unleash The Speaker Within event we staged in Melbourne.
